In Sanskrit, the coconut palm is known as kalpa vriksha, meaning "tree which gives all that is necessary for living." Coconuts are the fruit of the coconut palm known as a drupe with the largest seed known. It takes up to a year for coconuts to mature, however, the trees are always in bloom. The trees produce a dozen harvests each year at about 60 coconuts per harvest - that's around 720 coconuts per tree per year! The coconuts themselves have a life of 2-3 days once picked and will begin to decay after that unless frozen immediately after harvesting.
